![]() ![]() Since September of 2009 I have been presenting a wine series at The Watermark at 3030 Park Ave. in Bridgeport. Approximately every other Monday we gather by the bar for a tasting of wines. After a class on the basics of wine tasting we have been sampling wines from various wine regions. Our group is enthusiastic and has become very experienced tasters.
They take time to examine the wine’s color, swirl and sniff to get the most out of the aromas, discuss what they smell
and finally taste. After tasting the group is confident in describing the wine and shares their impressions. They know a good
wine when they taste one.

We have also taken trips to sample wines produced locally. Our first trip, on a beautiful fall day, was to Gouveia Vineyards in Wallingford. The grounds are beautiful and offer a great view of the surrounding area.

Trip 2 During the holiday season we visited Jones Winery in Shelton. Winemaker Jamie Jones met with the group and shared the history of the Jones Family Farm and explained how he made the decision to plant grape vines and start a winery. We then had a private tasting in the tasting room located in a dairy barn that dates from the 1800's.
The wine series will be running through October, 2010 so we will continue our travels
through the world of wine. There are plenty of wine regions left for us to explore!
I would like to thank Stacy Carlton for setting up the wine series, Marlane Argianas for her assistance, and Chef Tom Minotti for the tasty treats he provides each week. |
